 New Skills

Skills in Partnership provide and help hostels and daycentres to develop training suitable for their clients and service users.

This curriculum support is the most cost effective training available.

Training is individually tailored to meet the learners abilities.

For some it is a pathway to employment, for others a pathway to recovery.

Everyone that joins the training has at least one thing in common, the hope for change.

These Level 1 courses are designed to build confidence, encourage, and give all clients achievement towards both Education and Employment whilst demonstrating to the client new and achievable learning and practical skills.

In participating in these courses all clients will achieve the above and also gain a recognized national qualification. Each unit can be achieved within the 30hr course comprising of four sessions, Tool recognition, Materials, Techniques and Practicals.

The courses offer an environment to safely explore and challenge all clients personal, communication, numeracy and literacy skills, helping all clients become aware of their own situations regardless of their past experiences.

The courses whilst being an introduction to the skills of the trade required for building construction including welfare at work and good practice, also builds confidence and high self esteem.

1. Tool Recognition

This session encourages the client to recognize the tools required for the specific tasks involved with the trade, how to use, maintain and care for them.

2. Materials

In this session clients will familiarize themselves with the basic materials used within the trade. Confidence will be gained in recognizing different materials understanding their uses, how to store them safely, recognizing health and safety issues, when and how to use them.

3. Techniques

This session allows the client to explore the different techniques they will use when involved with practical work. Clients will understand the need for many techniques to safely carry out the tasks in a recognized order to achieve the standards required for the NOCN qualification and the building trade.

4. Practical

These session’s will be carried out over several days depending on the client’s ability. The practical task will help the client to gain confidence primarily in themselves and also enable the skills learnt within the Tool Recognition, materials and techniques sessions be put into practice. The main objective of the practical is to give the client a chance to try and in doing so will make the client aware of his wealth of ability.
