Wilmot Street Hostel - 'Challenge
Wilmot' Phase 1: To change the
dark closed-in unwelcoming reception area to a bright welcoming open space.
Phase 2: To change a little used TV lounge into offices, classrooms and chat rooms
for residents but still have a the TV lounge.

With limited funds and lots of enthusiasm from the staff it happened -

3 resident volunteers gained Awards in Team Building, Plastering,
Tool Recognition, Building a Career Portfolio and gained loads of
confidence. One wrote: “I’m grateful for this chance to gain new
skills and meet new people and make new friends. It has been a great opportunity to get the skills in plastering
and the building trade it has boosted my self-esteem up more than ever and it’s given me more to look forward to in
life.”
Wilmot Street met the challenge, got the changes made to the building at the price
that funds were limited to and the quality you would hope for.
Along the way a trip to Howden Joinery paid up big time. They donated enough kitchen units, worktops, doors
& splash backs to Skills in Partnership that Wilmot has a new wall to wall staff room kitchen.
The best bit was three of the residents had an opportunity to gain new
experiences & train in areas where they wouldn't normally be given the chance. For a
short time we were all part of the same team and we all know how good that feels.
The completed project...

A job well done
